Little by little I got to know Elvina as I drove her weekly to the grocery store (she loved ice cream and pudding), drug store and for an occasional haircut. She was always on time for a pickup and very organized in terms of what she needed. Our time for conversation was limited, fascinating and left me wanting more details of her remarkable life. But the greatest impact this strong and wise woman had on me personally was her upbeat and positive disposition. I never heard her complain, even after she transferred to the nursing home. I am hoping a little of this rubbed off on me. She was someone I will never forget.
