Friendship (Gloria Williams)

Created by Annie 11 years ago
This statement was written by Gloria to be read at Elvina's memorial service: I would like to start with a little history. Elvina and I met in 2003 as neighbors. She did volunteer work for the Night Ministry. I thought that was amazing. A few years later Elvina had an accident and fractured her hip. That's when she asked for my help. In the meantime we formed a friendship and a friendship indeed. Elvina was an amazing person, a modest person, and inspired so many of us. To know her was to love her. She pulled you in with her smile and hugs. I think most of us remember the story about "The Little Engine that Could." Well, if I could re-write that story, I would put her image on the front of the train. I would like to share a dream that Elvina told me about last week. She said she dreamed that the heavens had opened up. Before I could say a word, she said "Don't ask me what the dream was about because I don't remember. But what I do know, it was a beautiful dream." So in closing, I would like to say Elvina was a lady made of integrity, selflessness, compassion, humor and humility. To the Decker family, you have our deepest sympathy. Thank you, Gloria and family
