Dave posted this on Facebook: A week ago today a great woman - Elvina Moen - passed away at the age of 94. Elvina was like another aunt for me and my siblings... I have known her for as long as I can remember as she lived with my Uncle Tom & Aunt Sylvia Decker as their live in "Nanny" helping to raise my cousins Al & Annie Decker. At most of our family gatherings she was there, and treated me, my siblings and other cousins as family as well. The reason I am posting this, is because of on top everything, she worked and volunteered countless hours to a lot of great causes. From her obit: Her life was rich with community and service: AIDS Ride, Horizons, Night Ministry, Lincoln Park Village, her church, the Chicago Senior Citizens Hall of Fame, and more. Received an email today with this picture of Elvina, and just wanted to share it ... she was truly an amazing woman! The email along with the photo stated: "Elvina absolutely LOVED riding the Bus in the Pride Parade every June. She would take public transit from church and finish walking to the Bus. Then she would claim the shotgun seat and wave like a queen from there. For many many years, she insisted on walking (the parade route is around 3+ miles long), and the crowd would just go completely wild, screaming their admiration of this tiny elderly woman decked out in rainbow beads, grinning widely while hiking along beside the Bus. We finally had to MAKE her ride inside because we were afraid she’d keel over in the heat. I completely adore this photo." She's mentioned in several articles, etc., on the web, if you get a chance check em out! Some of what she did I was not even aware of!
